Hu, Wu meet Myanmar PM

President Hu Jintao and top legislator Wu Bangguo met yesterday with the prime minister of Myanmar, Soe Win, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Hu Jintao said China will continue to improve diplomatic relations with Myanmar and to develop the "friendly and cooperative ties" to benefit both countries and peoples.

He said it's part of China's commitment to building friendships and partnerships with its neighbors for fostering regional peace and prosperity.

Hu said China-Myanmar relations have witnessed new progress in the new century with the combined efforts of the two sides, including frequent state visits.

The Chinese president said positive results have come from strengthened cooperation in trade and economic matters, healthcare, tourism and anti-drug sectors.

And he noted close cooperation on international and regional issues.

Soe Win expressed appreciation for China's support of Myanmar's development.

Soe Win said Myanmar is striving for national stability, reconciliation, economic progress and improvement in living standards. He said his country will learn from China's experience.

Myanmar will also work with China to maintain regional peace and security.

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, also met the prime minister of Myanmar.

Wu said China hopes to cooperate with Myanmar to continually extend and enrich their ties to achieve development and prosperity.

Wu briefed his guest on China's achievements in economic growth and democratic and legal construction.

Soe Win re-affirmed Myanmar's adherence to the One-China policy.

He also praised the role of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee in China's economic and social development.
