The “new socialist” countryside

China's top legislature and advisory body will hold their annual sessions in early March. High on this year's agenda is the building of the so-called "New Socialist Countryside" in China.

This involves five aspects that touch on rural productivity, farmers' lives and the environment. The idea of the "New Socialist Countryside" is an important part of the country's 11th Five-Year Program. Its aim is to boost modern agriculture, develop new relationships between industry and agriculture, cities and countryside, and increases rural affluence. Construction of this area will serve as a guide for governments at all levels when solving problems related to farmers and agriculture.
