With the success of the Lunar New Year non-stop charter flights between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, more and more people are calling for regular service. Mainland authorities and visiting Kuomintang Party members from Taiwan are now consulting on the issue.
Chen Yunlin, head of the CPC's Taiwan Work Office, said the Mainland is willing to conduct consultations on holiday and routine passenger flights and cargo flights on the basis of the current operation models.
He said the mainland will consider and carry out any plans and suggestions which can benefit the people across the straits, and improve the economic and trade relations.
The head of the KMT delegation also pushed for the direct charter flights.
Tseng Yung-chuan, Kuomintang Legislative Leader said: "To make the passenger charter flights a regular event will greatly benefit cross-straits tourism, so we think our two proposals are in the people's interests. And they are what people from both sides of the straits look forward to in their contacts."
The two sides also discussed mainland residents visiting the island. Chen pointed out the Mainland has already done its part by granting its people permission to visit Taiwan nine months ago. He expressed the hope travel agencies on both sides could soon make arrangements after necessary consultation.
