Iran has begun large-scale maneuvers in the Persian Gulf by test-firing dozens of missiles. Tehran said the exercise would include drills in the Gulf and Sea of Oman.

It's the first time Iran's tested the Shahab-3 in military exercises. These missiles have a maximum range of about two thousand kilometers. The shahab-2 and shabah-3 missiles Iran launched on Thursday were reported to have been installed with cluster warheads. Several kinds of short-range missiles were also launched in an unspecified desert area in central Iran. An Iranian army chief says the drill merely shows Tehran's determination to defend itself against all possible threats ... and that it's not meant as a threat to neighboring countries.
