Beijing Summit declaration

In recent years, relations between China and African nations have been expanding in an all-around way. The exchanges are more reciprocal, and a new strategic partnership has been formed under the joint efforts made by both sides.

Meles Zenawi, Ethiopian Prime Minister said, “The African nations congratulate China's rapid development reiterated the One China Principle deepen cooperation.”

The Ethiopian Prime Minister was echoed by the Egyptian President, who also hailed the partnership between China and Africa based on mutual trust in politics, reciprocal cooperation in business, and exchanges in culture.

Hosni Mubarak, Egyptian President said, “We hold that the establishment of a new type of strategic partnership is both the shared desire and independent choice of China and Africa, serves our common interests, and will help enhance solidarity, mutual support, assistance and unity of developing countries, and contribute to a durable peace and harmonious development in the world.”

The forum has been widely acclaimed as the most important and largest gathering between Chinese and African leaders in decades. 48 African countries sent delegations to Beijing, most headed by the nation's top leaders. Besides the Declaration, an action plan that charts the course for China and African countries in the next three years was also adopted. The document mapped the two sides' cooperation in politics, economics, international affairs and social development between 2007 and 2009.
