China urges joint efforts to fight bird flu

Surayud Chulanont, Thai Prime Minister, said, "We are looking forward to closer cooperation on the vaccine. From what I've heard, we are going to set up a vaccine plant very soon, but we have to get more information from the Chinese side."

Although bird flu has appeared in more than 50 countries worldwide in the past three years, the worst hit region is Southeast Asia where 75% of human cases have been reported. This is why regional cooperation in Asia is of particular importance and urgency for control and prevention.

But while there is every reason to be on high alert and be well prepared, there is still no evidence of human to human transmission.
