China, S. Africa pledge to improve bilateral ties

Mbeki agreed that South Africa and China have established a solid friendly and cooperative relationship.

Both countries share the resolve to enhance their bilateral strategic partnership.

Thabo Mbeki, South African president, said, "And confirm Africa's convictions that we need to develop an Africa-China relationship. We're quite certain it will be of mutual benefit both to China and our continent."

Following their meeting, President Hu Jintao and Mbeki also witnessed the signing of five documents on bilateral cooperation. They include areas of economy, technology and plant quarantine.
