China to increase budget for education in 2007

Yu Daquan, NPC Deputy, said, "Education is a long-term strategy. Human resources are vital to a country's development and should be cultivated as young as possible."

The government calls for spending increases of 42 percent on education. But some deputies from rural areas say it may still be not enough.

Zhang Zhaorong, NPC Deputy, said, "It's a remarkable increase in government spending, but it's not enough for the whole nation. Although the tuition fees have been eliminated, the educational resources in the rural areas are very poor. It needs more input."
