BBC reporter kidnapped in Gaza

Palestinian police are searching for a BBC correspondent who they believe was kidnapped in the Gaza Strip on Monday.

Policemen deployed across a town near Gaza City, have erected roadblocks, and are using these to check passing vehicles. Security officials say four masked Palestinian gunmen kidnapped the reporter who flung a business card on the street as he was being taken from his car. He's been identified as Alan Johnston.

Johnston's rental car was later found abandoned in Gaza City. A Hamas spokesman has condemned the kidnapping, and called for Johnston's immediate release.
