Lien Chan also expressed confidence in the third cross-strait economic, trade and cultural forum, which is scheduled to open on Saturday in Beijing.

Lien Chan said, "The forum will successfully promote cross-strait economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation. It will play an important role in pushing cross-strait ties towards peace and stability."

During the two-day forum, cross-strait representatives will discuss topics including direct flights, education cooperation and tourism.

This is the fourth visit Lien Chen has made to the Chinese mainland.
