Chinese legislators deliberate on draft law amendments

The legislators also listened to a report on energy saving and environmental protection, delivered by Ma Kai, Minister of the State Development and Reform Commission.

The minister said China reduced energy use per unit of GDP in 2006 and the first half of 2007. That result came from a series of measures taken by the government, such as closing enterprises that consume large amounts of energy.

He said the central government has appropriated another 10 trillion yuan to save energy and reduce emissions.
