Chinese scientists head for Antarctica in search of prehistoric ice

Many countries are currently searching for such ice cores. The oldest one that scientists have studied so far dates back to just under one million years ago.

The Dome-A area where the Chinese scientists will be concentrating their search is considered the ideal place for studying the formation and evolution of the Antarctica ice sheets. It is also regarded as the likeliest location of ice dating back 1-and-a-half million years.
