Chen Deming, vice Minister, Nat'l Development & Reform Comm., said, "The ratio of renewable energy usage of the country's total energy consumption will be increased to 10 percent by 2010 and to 15 percent by 2020."
Vice Minister Chen also said China will continue to develop liquid biological fuel. By 2020, annual output of the alternative fuel will reach ten million tons per year.
To ensure the country's food security, the vice minister stressed that China will use less maize to produce liquid bio-fuel. Instead, non-food crops such as sweet sorghum will be used. Most non-food crops grow in barren hills and land, which are not suitable for growing grain crops.
In addition, he said preferential tax policies will be given to enterprises which do research and development in renewable energy.
