Shanghai raises energy efficiency

During the first half of this year, Shanghai's second industry witnessed an economic growth of 12 percent, while the third industry increased by 14 percent. This marks the first time that the tertiary industry's half-year growth surpassed the other. The city also encourages industries with high added values, such as finance, logistics and culture. More than 80 innovative industry zones will be established by year's end.

Zhou Bo,Director of Shanghai Foreign Econ.& Trade Comm.,said, "Shanghai's economy should form an industry pattern based on tertiary industry. Due to global trends shifting from the manufacturing industry to the service industry, Shanghai should make full use of the chance to shape its advantages in talent and information environment."

City officials say they plan to increase the tertiary industry ratio from the current 51 percent to 55 percent by 2012.
