President Hu Jintao then went to a local community in Chaoyang District. It's a role model for Beijing's HIV/AIDS prevention and care.
The community is holding a public consultation on AIDS. Senior residents and volunteers are all here to tell people more about the disease.
Hu Jintao hoped the volunteers would continue their efforts.
President Hu said, "HIV/AIDS prevention is a big issue for the health of the people. It requires the participation of everyone to achieve our goals. Volunteers have made crucial efforts in this campaign. I appreciate your work. I hope you can combine entertainment AND prevention."
Hu Jintao also talked to representatives of international organizations who attended the community event.
President Hu said, "The international community has offered help to AIDS prevention and treatment in China for a long time. I would like to send my sincere thanks to those international organizations and friends. HIV/AIDS prevention is a global issue. The Chinese government has taken this work seriously and carried out a series of policies and measures. We would like to improve international exchange and cooperation to promote the global AIDS-prevention campaign. I believe we can defeat the disease. Let's work together to achieve that goal."
At the end of his visit, President Hu Jintao also took part in a chorus to sing the Song of Red Ribbon with local residents.
In 2004 President Hu visited the You'an hospital in Beijing where he met with patients and doctors.
