Death toll rises to 153 in plane crash in Spain

Ervigio Coral, Head Emergency Services said, "You couldn't distinguish that there was an aircraft there - apart from the remains of the tail. If you didn't know you wouldn't have been able to say there was a plane, there was nothing left of the fuselage."

Airport authorities say an engine fire may have caused the crash. An immediate state of emergency was imposed at the airport. Runways were closed to outbound aircraft. Landings of incoming aircraft carried on as normal.
The crash is one of the worst aerial disasters in Spain in the last 25 years.
