The fund opened for applications from families last week, and has attracted a stream of applicants.
An applicant said, "Since the May 12th earthquake, I have always hoped to do something for the quake zone. After reading about this program in the newspaper, I applied right away."
There is tough competition among applicants, and families that have children of a similar age to the orphans are qualified to apply. Parents must have a stable job and a high level education. Families will also need to take an interview.
Social volunteers and psychologists will accompany the children to help give them new hope in the Chinese New Year celebrations.
