Chinese president Hu visits stadium and cemetery for Chinese nationals

Chinese President Hu Jintao said the stadium is the second largest project that China has funded for Tanzania, after the Tanzania-Zambia railroad.

The two presidents also paid their respects to Chinese nationals buried at a cemetery on the outskirts of Dar es Salaam. 69 Chinese workers are buried here, 51 of whom died while constructing the Tanzania-Zambia railroad.

President Hu said China has had productive cooperation with Tanzania in various fields.

He said China will provide further assistance to Tanzania.

69 Chinese workers are buried here, 51 of whom died while constructing the Tanzania-Zambia railroad.

Work started on the railway line in 1970 and it took about six years to finish. More than 50-thousand Chinese workers and technicians helped with construction.

President Hu Jintao wrote some words in remembrance of the dead.
