Tibetans start New Year celebrations

In Shangri-La, Yunnan Province, old Drolma's family is busy preparing for the coming New Year. Her family now earns about one million yuan per year by running a shop selling specialty local products.

Tibetans have started to celebrate their New Year holiday  on the eve of the Tibetan New Year. Families are gathering  together to enjoy traditional feasts.

Drolma said, "Life is good now. There are more travellers under the positive government policy. It has become easier to earn a living."

Drolma's daughter said, "I'm happy. It seems that we are celebrating the New Year holiday everyday."

In Gansu Province, families hang the new year paintings and light the butter lights to welcome the New Year.

Tibetans in Kangding county, Sichuan province, gathered in a local plaza to sing and dance, wishing for another happy and peaceful new year.
