Ethnic Han, Tibetans celebrate new year together

WATCH VIDEO

Although Yan Fan is a little disappointed as the most senior of the family, the great grand mother, is away paying homage in the temple, she is still excited to see the other family members again. For a year as neighbors, they have shared food, joy and dreams for future.

A Lhasa resident, Yan Fan, said, "We haven't seen each other since they moved to this new place. I miss them very much. The New Year is a good time for friends like us to visit each other. It's just like what we do in the inland areas."

Basang treated her guests with "qiema", the best food Tibetans would offer during the holiday. And she has to make sure the guests have had enough of it, because for her, the visit of an ethnic Han friend is of special meanings.

Basang, also a Lhasa resident, said, "I'm very excited to have a Han friend to visit my family during the New Year time. Tibetans enjoy getting together a lot during the year, but Hans and Tibetans don't have many chances to do so. Yan Fan is very kind, I enjoy with her."

It's not only Basang who enjoy spending the festival with the Hans. The youngest brother Laba works at another neighborhood in the city, and came to the party after work. Their elder sister walked for half an hour, and the host, the eldest brother has worked for a whole day preparing for the food to give the guest a taste they couldn't often enjoy.

For Yan Fan, visiting the Basang family is no different from visiting her own parents. And Basang loves Yan Fan like her own sister. Whether you are an ethnic Han or Tibetan, everyone wishes their family and friends prosperity and happiness in the new year.
