Astronauts have accidentally inserted a pin upside down and jammed an equipment storage platform during a spacewalk at the international space station. (CCTV.com) |
To keep it from flapping around, Swanson tied it down with tethers before heading inside. But those tethers have a certified lifetime of just three months out in space.
As a result, engineers were looking at a more permanent solution in case the platform remains jammed.
A team of NASA experts are determining if the shuttle Discovery crew can pry or hammer the pin loose during the mission's third and final spacewalk on Monday.
