Former US trade representative Charlene Barshefsky says the upcoming G20 summit should come out clearly against protectionism, and adopt an active, open trade policy.

Former US trade representative Charlene Barshefsky says the upcoming G20 summit should come out clearly against  protectionism, and adopt an active, open trade policy.

Barshefsky says trade plays an increasingly important role in promoting the global economy. She noted there's broad agreement that protectionism is a great danger to global recovery.

Barshefsky also says the first meeting between US President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao is significant for boosting development in areas such as economic development, currency exchange, climate change, energy and regional security.
