Japan, S. Korea seek DPRK sanctions

WATCH VIDEO

South Korean Deputy Nuclear Envoy Hwang Joon-Kook, said, "We also demand that the DPRK engage constructively with the Six Party process for the verifiable denuclearization. At the same time we are trying to preserve the momentum of the Six Party Talks to make substantial progress in the denuclearization process."

The DPRK has claimed it was only a communications satellite being sent into orbit.

The US, South Korea, Japan and others suspect the launch was a guise for testing long-range missile technology. They worry it's a step towards eventually mounting a nuclear weapon on a missile. Potentially the weapon would capable of reaching Alaska and beyond.

While Japan, South Korea, the United States and their allies are insisting on punishment for Pyongyang, China and Russia call for a cautious reaction.
