Wen Jiabao told former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda the downturn is a chance to speed up regional cooperation in Asia.

He said China and Japan should work together to push for the process, help set up the East Asian Community and revive the Asian economy.

Wen Jinbao reaffirmed the central government's support to Chief Executives from Hong Kong and Macao SARs.

He pledged to implement all the favorable and supporting policies to the two regions, and more measures are likely to follow to help stabilize their economies.

Premier Wen Jiabao also met with Fredrick Chien, chief advisor of Taiwan's Cross-Straits Common Market Foundation.

He said the Mainland will allow its businesspeople to invest in the island, and work to set up an economic cooperation mechanism.
