 It's a Lunar New Year staple but it's not edible. Each year, millions tune in for CCTV's Spring Festival Evening Gala showcasing China's best performing artists. But it doesn't just happen. At the moment the CCTV cast and crew are camping out in the broadcaster's biggest studio to rehearse for the main event.
The 1,000－square meter studio has almost become home for these performers. After the completion of each individual performance, the rehearsal these days mainly focuses on continuity between the various acts.
As usual, the music and dance presentations predominate on the program, but this year audience’s participation will be a new highlight to capture more attention.
 The addition of more magic tricks is expected to be the "piece de resistance". Along with the familiar faces, young hopeful newcomers also share center stage.
Starting Monday, there will be six rehearsals. The performers will lead an even more intense life, but they will be finally rewarded on January 31, the Lunar New Year's eve.
