The capital city is also getting swept up in Chinese New Year and Spring Festival cheer, and a number of artistic treats are in store for Beijing residents. With performances, games and temple fairs lined up, locals will have numerous choices to ring in the traditional holiday.

Traditional Chinese opera, acrobatics, modern drama, concerts, singing and dancing... whatever their preference, Beijing residents will be pleased with 280 shows starting on Sunday. The China Song and Dance Ensemble and China Peking Opera House will present Spring Festival specials during the holiday. Foreign artists will also join the celebrations with presentations of handmade gifts and performances for Chinese audiences such as showing magic tricks and ballet shows.

From stage to the street, the city is preparing for one of the biggest celebrations of the year. At the Beijing Chaoyang District Culture Center, these colored lights bear the characters of the 100 most common family names in China.

Residents in other communities are also busy decorating activity centers. The coming year of the sheep has also given plenty of inspiration for activities such as the riddle guessing and calligraphy presentations.
