For those traveling during the upcoming Spring Festival holidays, the vast world of snow and ice in northern China might be a good choice. Liaoning, Heilongjiang and Xinjiang widely known as China's major winter resorts are ready to embrace travelers seeking a chilly but happy time.

In Shenyang, the capital of northeastern China's Liaoning province, the colorful annual Snow and Ice Festival turns a little bit more dynamic this year. In addition to viewing the splendid ice sculptures on display at Wulihe Garden and Beiling Park, visitors can get in some physical exercise with activities like bicycling, hunting, skiing, outdoor swimming and horse racing, all in the world of snow and ice.

At the ongoing Harbin International Snow and Ice Festival in Heilongjiang, a carnival parade is eagerly anticipated by locals and incoming travelers. Visitors are sure to forget the chilly winter temperatures at the Mulan Rolling-Ice Show, with its campfire, dancing, fireworks and curling competition. The par ascending snow-mobile and dog-pulled sled races in Mudanjiang were also worth a try.

Some inexpensive activities are available at the Mudanfeng Ski Resort and Hengdao Ski Ground in Xinjiang, where you can have a whole hour of fun in the snow for a mere 35 yuan (about 4 US dollars).

For that matter, most of the ice sculpture exhibitions are free of charge. Ice lantern exhibitions, however, charge an entry fee of 80 yuan.
