All of China is getting ready for the Lunar New Year. And CCTV is no exception. The fourth rehearsal of the CCTV Spring Festival Evening Party took place on Sunday evening (Jan. 26). Year 2003 on the Chinese lunar calendar is the Year of Sheep, so the mascots, prizes and decorations all feature rams, goats, or sheep.

The white rams were made by a group of children, who will present the brilliant opening show of the Spring Festival Gala. The sheep toy is a prize for the contest between the host team and the performers. To vie for the prize, the hosts and artists will display their unique skills.

A real live sheep was also invited to the evening party. It is said to be the most beautiful and tame candidate selected from more than 1000 sheep. Its good temper won special care and love from the performers, especially the kids. And the Chinese word "ram" also became the most mentioned word in all the performances.

In ancient China, the character "ram" means good luck. Giving presents to relative means sending out good fortunes. The prize for the TV audiences at this year's CCTV Spring Festival Evening Party is designed with a pattern of three sheep, representing the best wishes to the Chinese people, the nation and the whole world. The prize was designed and crafted by a famous goldsmith store in Shanghai, and it will surely be a valuable collector's item.
