Temple fairs have always served as popular places to go to experience traditional Chinese New Year celebrations during Spring Festival. Actors, folk artists, vendors and temple fair staff members are now hard at work as they prepare for the onslaught of visitors as the Year of Sheep gets closer and closer.

The characters from one of China's greatest works of literature will step right out of the pages of The Dream of the Red Mansion and appear at a temple fair near you. These actors are rehearsing one of the most visual scenes from the novel where the eldest daughter at the Red Mansion visits her parents after she has married the emperor. This show along with other traditional acts will travel to temple fairs across the city such as at Ditan Park, Longtanhu and Chaoyang Park.

"We aim to give this year's temple fair more folk and ethnic characteristics. We are sure that the food and entertainment will bring visitors great enjoyment of traditional Beijing culture," said Yang Haisen, deputy-director of Culture Committee of Beijing's Xuanwu District.

Visitors are sure to be delighted. Tian Zhanyi has spent 30 years as a traditional storyteller and he will be just one of hundreds of artists hoping to wow revelers as they celebrate the new year.
