The week-long Spring Festival holiday gave many Chinese a great reason to go on a tour. And for all travel agencies, the holiday means a golden chance to make big money.

Fifty-nine million people left their homes for a tour during the week-long Spring Festival holiday. This is a record high in China's holiday tourism. During the seven-day vacation, whether to the warm south with its blue sea and silver beach, or the cold north with its snow and ice, the whole country was smiling at numerous tourists everywhere. This time, tourism has pulled in altogether 25.7 billion yuan (some 3.2 billion US dollars). That's about 400 yuan per capita.

"I come from Xinjiang and I've never seen such a beautiful sea before. It is as warm as summer here," said a Xinjiang tourist at Sanya in Hainan Province.

"It is really interesting to spend my first Spring Festival at such a cold place," said a Guangxi tourist at Harbin in Heilongjiang Province.

Among China's 22 key tourist cities, Guangzhou saw the most visitors as large numbers of people from Hong Kong and Macao came over to celebrate the Spring Festival on the mainland. Shenzhen, Tianjin and Beijing also had a great amount of tourists.

Compared with traditional sightseeing, recreational activities were more welcomed by people this year. Southerners went to the north to ski or experience the unimaginable winter swimming, while northerners flew to the seaside to enjoy the sunshine and the soft beach.

Moreover, foreign travel was also popular. Families or friends went together to some foreign countries to see those exotic scenes. At the Egyptian Pyramids, the Sydney Opera House or the Tokyo Disneyland, Chinese could be found everywhere. Different roads, different scenery for all Chinese, but the happy mood was still the same.
