The sound of China reverberated through Vienna's Golden Hall on the night of Jan.7. The prestigious venue that welcomes the world－renowned Vienna New Year Concert opened its doors to Chinese artists, bringing Austria the best of Chinese music and opera.
The "2004 Vienna Chinese New Year Concert" was backed by Austrian musicians. Featuring Chinese folk music and opera, the concert introduced the essence of Chinese art to a full house of Austrians.
A performance of Matouqin, a three－stringed instrument from Inner Mongolia, swept through hearts like a fresh breeze over the grasslands. And exotic Peking Opera masterpieces like "Taking Tiger Mountain by Wit" and "Riotous Clouds Sweep" received thunderous applause from a mesmerized audience.
