The Chinese Lunar New Year is still two weeks away, but the festival has come early here at China Central Television. Top artists and performers have got together to film the biggest Opera Gala of the year.
This year's Spring Festival Local Opera Gala is titled "Flourishing Age of Opera". It includes seven parts and lasts a total of four and a half hours. Peking opera accounts for nearly half of all 41 programmes. The other half consists of 11 local operas and 10 newly designed programmes. More than 300 performers from across the nation are taking part in the performance. The event is a chance for established artists, rising stars and amateurs to show their stuff.
The biggest highlight of this year's gala is going to be the introduction of folk art in live performances, such as paper cutters wielding their scissors in opera shows.
Faithful CCTV viewers will recognize six of their favorite presenters, Bai Yansheng, Zhou Tao, Sun Xiaomei, Ju Ping, Shi Yi and Jiang Kun hosting the gala.
