| TV gala promises toe－tapping time |

For Chinese around the world, the Spring Festival is a time for families to get together. And on the eve of every Lunar New Year, CCTV puts on its Spring Festival gala. With the special day drawing near, performers have been rehearsing hard at CCTV－I studio.
"Blessing", the simple word became the fitting theme for the 2004 CCTV Spring Festival Gala. Between friends, neighbors, families and communities, the show will be based around a series of blessings delivered by the hosts on the night.
The most popular comic forms like cross－talk and skits still occupy their traditional places in the impressive menu. And song and dance performances will showcase the personalities and features of the times.
Aside from that, there will be some toe－tapping moments from the Emerald Isle and some opera from closer to home. Classic ensembles from traditional Chinese genres might be not enough. Artists have prepared newly created operas to attract younger audience.
Jan.9 was the first time that the whole cast had got together and excitement filled the hall. All of the performers are keen to show their best form in front of the massive TV audience.
Good news for overseas viewers. CCTV International will broadcast the event live in English. It goes to air on the night of Jan. 21, Beijing time.
