It's the time for all overseas Chinese to think of their homeland. For them, watching CCTV's Spring Festival gala has also become a tradition during the eve of the Chinese Lunar New Year. As the special day nears, CCTV has arranged a special program to spread the message of the gala to more Chinese living abroad.

The annual spectacle by CCTV has almost become a sort of seasonal tradition for Chinese, no matter where they live. Sitting with family members, watching the Spring Festival gala and waiting for the New Year clock. This is a special moment that all Chinese look forward to throughout the year.

For lots of overseas Chinese people, they not only want to experience the festive ambience in a spectacular way, but also in a vivid way. They long to know more about what’s happening in their motherland during the previous year.

This year, many programs are inspired by monumental events happening in 2003, as well as some new social issues. Reaching for inspiration from real life, and keeping abreast of the changing times, help the show to stay current and captivating. Many familiar scenes will appear again on the stage, including a tribute to China's first astronaut in space, as well as the struggle against the SARS.

CCTV Overseas Service has arranged a video linkup program to better transmit the gala to an overseas audience. The top stars of the cast have all been invited to join in an interview at the studio. The changes are also aimed at promoting the influence of the CCTV Spring Festival gala as a cultural TV brand.
