While urban citizens are accustomed to enjoying modern entertainment, people from the countryside are far from familiar with these ever-popular luxuries. Their eagerness to experience these forms of entertainment is rapidly increasing. Fortunately, the Chinese government has recognized this trend, and is developing entertainment specifically designed for rural areas.
Beginning this year, the Chinese government will provide loans totaling 370,000 US dollars to develop a variety of entertainment businesses in rural areas. Tibet, Guangxi, Yunnan and Sichuan will receive the first 110,000 US dollars to run entertainment training schools, and to cultivate local stars.
Besides training local performers, the central government has also organized cultural activities to entertain farmers. With 900 million people residing in rural areas, China is facing numerous difficulties in balancing the nation's living standard. The "Rural Culture Campaign", sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, is hoping to psychologically motivate farmers into improving their own lives.
