Guns have always had a special place in history, even helping to define parts of the culture we know today. On Feb.17, a large gun exhibition opens in the Public Security Museum of Shanghai.
At the exhibition, historical fire arms from 17 countries are on display. Exhibits include the powder gun used by European cavalry in the 14th century, Italian powder gun used in the 18th century and police weapons from times past. Some guns seen mostly in recent spy movies were also on show. All the guns are exhibited according to chronological order. Highlights of the show include the pistol used by Chen Yi, a famous general of China's armed forces, and the Browning used by Sun Yat-sen, forerunner of the Chinese revolution. Visitors also have a chance to get their hands on the biggest item of the exhibition, a heavy-machine gun.
The first group of visitors were mainly college students, who seemed very interested in the display.
Organizers of the exhibition said that it is held to better improve people's patriotism and to let them have a general understanding of gun culture. The exhibition will close on Feb.21.
