For China's 360 million children, the past two months have been both entertaining and instructive since China Central Television launched the country's first exclusive children's channel. The move came in response to the growing demand for suitable programs for young viewers, and has received unanimous praise from around the country.
The CCTV Children's Channel is primarily for young children between zero-eight years of age. The station broadcasts 18 hours a day from 6:00a.m. to 12 midnight. The programs consist of educational shows, games, popular science, variety shows, children's dramas and, of course, cartoons.
94 percent of the viewers have expressed satisfaction with the programs, and 90 percent are pleased with the arrangement. The viewers as a whole, say that by combining education with entertainment, the children's programs make the learning process more fun. They say this is an important addition to formal education.
According to a survey, the favorite programs include popular science shows, cartoons, and interactive programs where parents and their kids take part.
In order for the programs to reach the large number of children who live in the suburbs and the countryside, the channel intends to reach those areas via satellite KU.
