The English Language and Culture Festival at Beijing Foreign Studies University
Summer at the Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) is filled with the shadow of green trees and the scent of beautiful flowers. With much expectation and enthusiasm from the student body of BFSU, the English Culture Festival is beginning.
This year, we have organized a series of activities in our festival. We will hold the 3rd English Speech Contest for non-English Majors of our school, the 2nd English Singing Invitational Competition Finals, the Drama Night, the Movie Show, the Introduction of Cocktail Culture, and lectures on various topics given by famous professors and minister or counselors from embassies of the US, UK, South Africa and Australia.
The most important activities among the series of festival activities are the "Drama Night", the "Introduction of Cocktail Culture" and the "Beijing English Singing Invitational Competition Finals."
Drama Night
"Drama Night" is the first activity of the festival and it also has the most participants. Each play involves the entire class.
Tonight there were seven teams and seven dramas which are "Growing Pains", "The Little Mermaid", "The Story of Little Mermaid", "A Midsummer Night’s Dream", "Sound of Music", "The Queen from The Nether World", and "The Chaser." About these seven, most scripts are adapted from the original movies or novels. Others are just created by student themselves. So it has got very exciting.
After careful adjustment of lighting for the play and a dress rehearsal, it is finally time for "Drama Night."
The play performed by the International Cultural Exchange Department is "Midsummer Night’s Dream." The actress who left the deepest impression on the audience was the clever little girl wearing leaves. She was not the leading role, but her lively and lovable performance added much beauty to the drama.
"Growing Pains" is an American sitcom that is very familiar to Chinese students. The students from the English Department changed some parts of it before performing on the stage.
"Daughter of the Sea" won two important awards -- the award for best drama and for best leading actress.
I was actually invited to be the judge for the "Drama night. " I was very impressed by the students’ creativity because they designed all by themselves. Nowadays young people are more interested in entertainment values, so they make the show really entertaining and interesting. You can see that they have a lot of teamwork because you know to put up any to stage a show, you need a lot of people to cooperate. And I think they did a very good job.
The Introduction of Cocktail Culture
Because cocktail is a special kind of alcoholic drink representing western countries, the Student Union held an activity to introduce cocktail culture to the students.
The students know more about cocktail culture after watching the wonderful performance which was given by expert cocktail preparers. After tasting a glass of cocktail which was mixed by the experts, the students also had a chance to try themselves. Look, how carefully the boy is working!
I think the festival now contains not only the information of English knowledge, but also the culture. It is very wonderful, and it is a very good way to communicate with people here from other campus, talk each other and share happiness together.
The English Singing Invitational Competition
The English Singing Invitational Competition was the last but the most important program in the festival. Although the festival was nearing its end, the students were still busy perfecting the final details of the competition.
The competition attracted 18 contestants from 8 universities including Beijing University and Renmin University. The competition revealed the spirit of current students. It also combined the students' enthusiasm for learning English with their desire to participate in literature and art competitions.
Today, it's my honor to represent Renmin University to take part in this English Singing Competition. I think it’s a very big and special competition because in our school, there were also some famous ones but seldom related with English. So I think it is a very good opportunity for me to exhibit my skills of singing English songs and the ability of speaking English.
Every scene from the competition consists of spirited songs and lively conversations. The hard work of the students enabled them to realize a common dream. The English Culture Festival ended satisfactorily. The students will weave another dream together, drawing on the experience and hopes that came out of the festival.

北外英语文化节
夏季的北外，绿树成荫，花香四溢。盛载着同学们的期待，洋溢着同学们的热情，北外英语文化节正式拉开了帷幕。

在艺术节中我们将举办一系列的活动，有“北外第三届非英语专业演讲比赛”，“第二届北京高校英文歌曲邀请赛”，“戏剧之夜”，“原声电影展播”，和“鸡尾酒文化介绍”。 我们还从美国使馆、英国使馆、南非使馆以及澳大利亚使馆邀请了许多专家、教授等给我们做有关西方文化的讲座。
在众多的活动中，“英文短剧之夜”、“鸡尾酒文化介绍”以及“北京高校英文歌曲大赛”是文化节的系列活动中的重头戏。
英文短剧之夜
“英文短剧之夜”是文化节的第一项活动，也是参与人数最多的一项活动，每一部戏剧的排练都调动了全班的力量。

今天晚上一共有七个英语短剧，它们是“成长的烦恼”、“小美人鱼”、“海的女儿”、“仲夏夜之梦”、“音乐之声”、“冥后”和“毒药”。大部分剧都是选自原声电影或原版小说，也有的是同学们自己改编的。相信内容会很精彩。
经过紧张的灯光调试和走场之后，“戏剧之夜”终于和大家见面了。
国际交流学院选送的戏剧是“仲夏夜之梦”，整场戏剧中给人印象最为深刻的是一个浑身穿着树叶的“小精灵”。 她虽然不是女主角，但是其活泼可爱的表演为戏剧增色许多。
“成长的烦恼”是大家耳熟能详的一部美国电视剧，英语学院的的同学经过了重新的编排之后将其搬上了舞台。
“海的女儿”在此次活动中获得了最佳短剧、最佳女主角两项大奖。

我是“戏剧之夜”的评委。学生们的创造力给我留下了很深的印象。现在的学生更注重表演的娱乐性，他们的表演真的很有意思。同时你也能看到他们很注重团队的合作精神。大家都知道，戏剧表演需要很多人合作，我认为他们这一点做的都很好。
鸡尾酒文化介绍
鸡尾酒是西方国家特有的一种酒，它代表了一种异域的文化，因此同学们在艺术节中举办了“鸡尾酒文化介绍”这一活动。
观看了调酒师一段精彩的表演，同学们对鸡尾酒文化有了总体的认识。在品尝了调酒师们调制的鸡尾酒后，同学们也纷纷亲自动手试一下。瞧，这个男孩子学的多么认真。

我想这个活动除了介绍语言知识外，还介绍了很多文化知识，这个活动办的很好。通过这个活动，我认识了许多别的学校的同学，和他们一起交流，分享彼此的快乐。
英文歌曲邀请赛
“英文歌曲邀请赛”是本次活动的压轴戏。虽然活动已接近尾声，但同学们仍旧紧张忙碌着，力求将每一个细节都达至完美。
本次邀请赛吸引了来自北京大学和人民大学等8所高校的18名选手。英文歌曲邀请赛展现了当代大学生的精神风貌, 它将同学们学习英语的热情和参与文艺比赛的愿望相结合。

能代表人民大学来参加这个英语歌曲大赛，我感到很荣幸。这个比赛规模很大，形式也很新颖。我们学校也有类似的活动，但是与英语有关的却不多。所以我觉得这是一次让我展示自己英语水平的好机会。
欢歌和笑语，凝结成了一幅幅美丽的画面；汗水和成功记载下了共同的梦想。本届外语文化节圆满结束了。带着收获和祈盼同学又将编织另一个新的梦想。
