Visiting U.S. President George W. Bush said in Beijing Friday morning that the United States welcomes the emergence of a strong, peaceful and prosperous China.
Bush made the remark when addressing students and faculty members of the prestigious Qinghua University in Beijing.
The U.S. president said that once his country knew China only by its history as a great and enduring civilization while today it sees a China that is still defined by noble traditions of family, scholarship and honor.
"We see a China that is becoming one of the most dynamic and creative societies in the world," Bush said. "China is on a rising path, and America welcomes the emergence of a strong, peaceful and prosperous China."
Bush is on the second day of a two-day working visit to China.
