SUN, FEB 24, 2002
The United States Congress has reaffirmed successful implementation of China's "one country, two systems" policy in Hong Kong under the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa.
According to the delegation of the Better Hong Kong Foundation, which returned to Hong Kong after paying an annual visit to the Washington D.C. between February 12 to 14, U.S. Congressmen have praised Hong Kong for its upholding of the rule of law, freedom of speech and assembly and economic freedom.
George Yuen, the chief executive of the foundation, told reporters Friday that during the visit, he has also learnt from Congressman Doug Bereuter, the author of the 9th U.S. Congress Task Force Report on Hong Kong, that the U.S.trade representative has particularly commended Hong Kong is a model other Asian economies should follow.
Bereuter was referring to the trade representative's remarks concerning Hong Kong's success in dealing with intellectual property rights piracy and maintaining an outstanding export control regime for security purposes, Yuen said.
During the three-day visit in the U.S., the delegation had 16 appointments with important discussions with senators, representatives, staffers, senior U.S. officials and think tanks.
