Enterprises Urged to Sharpen Competitiveness
THU, FEB 28, 2002
A senior Chinese official Wednesday urged enterprises to sharpen their competitiveness on world market.
At a national conference on foreign trade and economic co-operation, Li Rongrong, minister in charge of the State Economic and Trade Commission (SETC), pointed out two vital ways to sharpen global competitiveness, the adjustment in industrial structure and the upgrading of technology, according to Thursday's China Daily.
The minister divided the country's industries into three categories.
The first category includes those with advantageous competitiveness in global market, including textiles, coal and light industries, and they are encouraged to aggregate their competitiveness.
The second group includes the metallurgy, machinery and petrochemical sectors, enjoying a sound material and technological basis but somewhat backward in worldwide market.
The third category are those that are trailing their foreign counterparts, like automobile industry, and they are advised to combine and regroup, strengthen technology co-operation and improve service quality.
