The World Cultural Heritage Committee has decided to assess Macao's application for 12 sites to receive World Cultural Heritage listing. At the body's annual meeting in Paris, the applications passed the Committee's technical examination.

The short-listed sites were recommended as a whole featuring a blend of oriental and western styles. Among them are the Ruins of St. Paul's Church, the A-Ma Temple and the Mandarin's House.

The A-Ma Temple is the city's oldest Chinese temple and has a history of over 500 years. St Paul's church was built under the direction of an Italian architect priest in 1602. The old "Fortaleza Do Monte", or "Fortress on the Mountain", where the Macao museum is now located, is also on the list.

Macao's historical sites are China's top pick for its 2005 World Cultural Heritage application.
