Beijing's preparations for the Olympic Games have not been affected by SARS. That's the assessment of the Vice Chairman of Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Games Jiang Xiaoyu. The vice chairman said construction, marketing and promotion tied to the big event were well underway.

Jiang Xiaoyu said preparations for the games were moving ahead steadily and efficiently and the recent SARS outbreak had not had a big impact on the committee's plans.

Jiang said, "In a way SARS has made us more sober-minded. We are going to draw lessons and experience from it and turn a bad thing into a good thing. At present our work is focusing on three areas, building Olympics venues, marketing the event and promoting cultural activities."

Jiang Xiaoyu said construction would start on four venues this year, namely, the National Stadium, the National Swimming Center, the Beijing Shooting Range and the Laoshan Cycling Track. Design, planning and project tendering for other venues were also in progress.

He said the next two months would bring a flurry of marketing and cultural activities. "We have reached agreement regarding market development with IOC and we are going to publicize the agreement in September. Also, we will present the new Olympic logo to the public in August. In September we will also hold an Olympic cultural festival," said Jiang

Apart from these, the vice chairman said preparations in other areas such as security, transport and environmental protection were also going ahead.
