 Near 600 archers from over 80 countries and regions have converged in New York City for the 42nd World Outdoor Target Archery Championships. It is the largest World Championships ever in the sport of archery.
Olympic champions and hopefuls will contest eight events, with preliminaries taking place in Van Cortlandt Park's Parade Grounds. Archers will compete in individual and team recurve bow and the competition will serve as the qualifier for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
The event will also feature individual and team competition for compound bows. Participants will endure multiple elimination rounds during the seven－day event, leading to the finals in Central Park.
