Young people in China have contributed a great deal to China's friendly relations with other countries. In the past five years, more than 10,000 Chinese youth have taken part in various foreign exchange activities.

Liu Nan is one of the five young volunteers that China sent to Laos in May 2002, its first batch of young volunteers to foreign countries. She came back after the six-month service term expired in November 2002. But she said she would never forget the time she spent in Laos and the people she met there. The government of Laos has asked China to send 10 more volunteers to the country.

In recent years, the Chinese government has given special attention to developing youth exchange activities with neighboring countries, such as Vietnam, Japan and Russia. These activities are intended to help develop young people's potential in different countries and seek common ground.

Jiang Guangping from Chinese Youth League said, "In the past years, about 10,000 Chinese young people have taken part in the foreign exchange activities sponsored by the Youth League. And they have drawn in about 13 million US dollars of foreign capital for the Yellow River Protection Project."

Later this year, the Central Committee of the Chinese Youth League will initiate an international program for Chinese youth to start businesses. It will also take part in the Asia-Europe Youth Civilized Dialogue co-held by 26 countries in Asia and Europe.
