China snatches swimming gold medal

    China has added one more swimming gold medal to its medal tally at the world swimming championships in Barcelona. China's defending champion Luo Xuejuan won the gold in the women's 50-meter breaststroke on Sunday night. And Michael Phelps of the USA set an unprecedented fifth world record at the world swimming championships.

    Defending champion Luo Xuejuan of China won the women's 50-meter breaststroke at the world swimming championships. Luo clocked in at 30.67 seconds, beating Brooke Hanson of Australia and world record holder Zoe Baker of Britain. This is Luo's third gold medal in Barcelona. 19-year-old Luo had earlier won the 100-meter breaststroke and "4 by 100-meter" medley relay in the championship.

    Meanwhile, Michael Phelps of the USA won victory in the men's 400-meter individual medley, setting a new world record. In the men's 50-meter backstroke, Germany's Thomas Rupprath broke the four-year-old world record. The United States smashed its own world record in the men's "4 by 100-meter" medley relay final. Australia's Olympic champion, Grant Hackett, won the gold medal in the Men's 1,500-meter freestyle.
