People in the Chinese mainland will find it easier to get visas for Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions beginning Tuesday. Public security departments will be granted the authority to process visa documents for study and business purposes to Hong Kong and Macao.

According to the new policy, mainland citizens who are going to Hong Kong for teaching, study, cooperative research, advanced labor services, or employment in arts and sports organizations will be granted return visas for Hong Kong and Macao.

The new policy is to promote a plan for importing mainland talent, adopted by the Hong Kong SAR.

This plan aims at importing a larger range of work skills from the Chinese mainland, so a wider range of applications for mainland citizens to Hong Kong are now being accepted by the entry-exit authorities.

Gao Huada, deputy head of Entry-Exit Division, Beijing Public Security Bureau, said, "The newly available applications include personnel and their relatives mentioned in the plan, trainees, students and their relatives from the Chinese mainland. "

According to the new policy, a mainland citizen can apply for relative-visiting visa for his or her relatives while they are living in Hong Kong, but the relatives cannot apply for any job in Hong Kong and Macao.
