The US anti-dumping case against Chinese TV makers moved a step forward earlier this week. The US Department of Commerce has picked four TV manufacturers out of twelve as compulsory subjects in their dumping investigations.
The four companies are Changhong, TCL, Konka and Xiamen Overseas, the top four TV exporters to the US. Their total export volumes are estimated to account for more than 91 percent of the exports of all Chinese TV enterprises to the US market.
Konka, one of the four companies on the list, says the investigation is what they had hoped for. They will act according to plan for a satisfactory outcome.
"This is actually the result we've been striving for. There are two steps in our efforts to respond to the investigation by the US Department of Commerce. The first step is to try to be included in the range of the investigation subjects. For the next step, we will endeavor to deliver our evidence proving that we haven't dumped our products in the US. Then we'll try to obtain a tariff rate of below 2%," said Liu Junhe, marketing director of Konka
A legal expert who has been involved in the case gives her analyses on the possible final outcome result for the Chinese TV manufacturers.
"The extent of dumping for the four companies to be determined by the DOC will be different because their export prices and costs are different. The remaining eight companies may also request the DOC to subject them to such compulsory investigation. The DOC may accept their request. If it doesn't, the tariff rates determined for the eight companies will be the weighted average tax rate of the four companies," said Gao Lin, lawyer of Beijing Shijia Law Firm.
