The World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention has opened in Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia, drawing more than 3,200 delegates from around the world.
At Monday's opening ceremony, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed said overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia play an important role in promoting the regional economy. Cooperation between Chinese Malaysians and other ethnic groups has made the country more prosperous than ever. The Convention has become an international forum for overseas Chinese entrepreneurs to enhance economic co-operation and promote better understanding among themselves and their business communities worldwide.
Singapore held the first Convention in 1991, and China's Nanjing was last year's host.
