The construction plans for a mega-bridge linking Hong Kong, Macau and Zhuhai is to be submitted to the Chinese State Council for review. The Hong Kong SAR's Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang says, once the plan is approved, detailed discussions will take place on the funding and technology required by the project.

Donal Tsang is leading an SAR government delegation in talks with mainland officials in an attempt to close a deal on the long-awaited proposal to build the bridge.

Tsang says all parties involved agree on the necessity of such a bridge to link the the three divided areas.

Donal Tsang said, "One of the benefits the bridge will bring is that the driving distance from the western part of the Pearl River Delta Region to Hong Kong will be shortened by 30 kilometers. And the cities in western Guangdong will then be within a 3 hour-driving distance from Hong Kong."

Apart from the bridge proposal, issues such as the feasibility of a new express rail link between Shenzhen, Guangdong, and Hong Kong and co-ordination of container port projects, were also on the agenda.
